- The club merging trend begun during the 1998-2002 period brought a short era of rationalization.
- After 2003, the NRL achieved record popularity in the rugby game world. Thousands of spectators have watched the game in the stadium and millions outside of the stadium thanks to TV broadcasting and upsurge of the internet.
- After 2010, a new and independent commission ARLC (Australian Rugby League Corporation) has formed with the agreement of ARL & News Corporation under the hood of the Australian government body managing sports affairs. Rules and details of the competitions have framed jointly.
Season Structure of NRL Championship:
- Pre-season: It includes All-Stars Match, Auckland Nines, and World Club Challenge.
- Premiership Season: It begins with the onset of winter in March and games played every weekend for 25 weeks.
- Representative Season: It is laying for the clubs in the premiership as per the schedule of the NRL calendar for the entire rugby game season.
Finals series are playing among the eight highest placed teams at the end of the regular season in September. Finally, two last teams are remaining to compete for the NRL championship trophy in October that is known as a grand finale.
NRL Trophies/Awards:
Provan-Summons Trophy:
It is the main prize in the NRL championship. The trophy is awarded to the captain of the winning club in the grand finals. A lot of design similarities were found between the Winfield Cup trophy & Provan-Summons trophy.
It is a 3D cast of an image called Gladiators. It depicts embracing of two mud-soaked entities, Norm Provan of St. George and Arthur Summons of Western Suburbs.
J. J. Giltinan Shield Trophy
It is named after James J. Giltinan, a central figure who was a founding member of the Rugby League in Australia. It was first introduced in 1951, and awarded to the winner club played in the minor-premiers contests each year. In early years St. George club was a frequent winner. Later on, Sydney Roosters have dominated.
Clive Churchill Medal
It is a prestigious medal in rugby sports. It was awarded to the man-of-the-match player judged in the NRL grand finals championship. The medal is not presented in a case now, but with a ribbon to wear around the neck.
Dally M Medal
The medal is awarded to Player of the Year by the Daily Mirror newspaper after a complex selection process. The Australian prime minister awarded it in the Daily M Award ceremony.
NRL Premiership Ring
It was presented to the players and coach of the winning team in the grand final of the NRL championship. Zed N Zed Jeweller had made it in 2014 worth $8K. after 2015. It was produced by Affinity Diamonds.
